ACOP: Platinum Series II begins this week

The ACOP: Platinum Series returns this week to from September 12-15 and the regional series may have worldly outcomes for some of the expected field.

Taking place in Macau and hosted by 'PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams', most of the field will be looking to win the HK $5,500 Main Event which comes with a HK $500,000 guarantee. For those who don't get the outright win, they'll try to at least make the Top Ten to qualify for the ACOP: Platinum Series Playoff where one player will win a HK $100,000 Main Event entry to the 2013 Asia Championship of Poker for a chance at truly life-changing money.

For Taiwanese poker pro Terry Fan, this week's four Official Asia Player of the Year events are more opportunities to pad his lead as the No. 1 ranked player on the Asia Player of the Year (APOY) leaderboard. Fan hasn't scored any more points since his Red Dragon victory in April's Macau Poker Cup (MPC) but has certainly been putting in the time on the Asian poker circuit. After playing August's MPC, he flew directly to Korea for the Seoul Poker Cup where he came just four places short of making the Main Event final table.

How many top ranked players will participate this week is yet to be known but one Team PokerStars Pro will surely be in the field in Macau-resident Celina Lin. Lin is currently sitting at No. 13 and is arguably the most consistent player on the Asian poker circuit. She has finished in the Top 20 every year except 2011 and is looking to improve on her 7th place finish on last year's leaderboard.

The previous Platinum Series had Main Event totals of 169 players and HK $760,500 in prize money. With more on the line than would appear, there's a good chance those numbers will be beat.
